“Part of the Downtown Mar Vista Beautification Project, a partnership with the community to prioritize & implement improvements along Venice Blvd. between Beethoven and Inglewood, the Mar Vista Music and Art Walk took submissions for the mural and streetlight medallion art component of the overall project. 
As part of the DTMVB rollout, several community outreach meetings were conducted. A survey circulated to community residents resulted in the selection of the following three themes for these community murals:  Ocean view or ocean related (a translation of “Mar Vista”), social justice and the history of Mar Vista.  The community also indicated its preference for representational art (as opposed to abstract art).  The final community selections were installed by the artists in April 2021.
The Downtown Mar Vista Beautification Project is a project of Los Angeles Neighborhood Initiative (LANI) with Council Member Mike Bonin-CD11, LADOT and Studio III.  Funding for this project comes from the LADOT.”
